Welcome to VRML:
The Virtual Reality Modeling Language

VRML was hot around the year 2000 (from 1997 to 2003). Since then, it has been gradually faded out and evoluted into X3D, which is the enhanced successor to VRML. However, the VRML97 specification and many VRML tools are still very useful and will remain so while developers update their products to support X3D.

Where to find information about VRML and its Viewers? Here are several sites you may want to visit:

  1. VRML Archives at Web3D
It contains many useful resouces related to VRML 2.0 (or VRML 97).

  2. NIST: Cosmo Player VRML Plugin
It is the best site to find how to install Cosmo Player VRML Plugin for major browsers. The installation programs work with any version of Windows including 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

Recently (in Aug, 2003), I have followed its instructions step by step on how to install Cosmo Player on my Google Chrome.

  3. NIST: VRML Plugin Detector
Before or after the plugin has been installed, you might want to use the Detector to detect if your browser has the plug-in installed.

Note: The web browser should be restarted before trying to detect a newly installed plugin.

After my installation, I restarted my Chrome, opened the detector page and I can see the plug-in is succussfully installed:
